Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is proven to be effective for a range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug use, marital challenges, eating disorders, and severe mental health challenges. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.  CBT is based on these core principles:

  1. Psychological challenges are rooted in faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking - and - learned patterns of unhelpful behavior.
  2. People suffering from psychological challenges can learn better ways of coping, thereby relieving their symptoms and becoming more effective in their lives.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a form of CBT designed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to treat a broad range of complicated symptoms and concerns.  DBT is structured therapy that focuses on teaching four core skills (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness) to help you live life to the fullest.  At-home-work is a required element of DBT. Typically, we teach a skill, you practice the skill (at home), we review and repeat, utilizing structured lesson plans.

Health At Every Size (HAES)-Informed

We believe, wholeheartedly, in the Health At Every Size Principles, which you can find through the Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH).  We believe:

  1. Healthcare is a human right for people of all sizes, including those at the highest end of the size spectrum.
  2. Care is fully provided only when free from anti-fat bias and offered with people of all sizes in mind.
  3. Wellbeing, care, and healing are resources that are both collective and deeply personal.
  4. Health is a sociopolitical construct that reflects the values of society.
